We all know the Maybachs are just ridiculus tuned Merc S-Class with a new logo. There rubbish, over priced and ugly. Very stupid of you to buy one. Finally Daimler pulled the plug on the darn thing. Maybach was in a sense a good idea gone wrong. Mercedes got the idea of bringing back the retro brand after seeing success from VW with the bettle, BMW with mini and Fiat with the 500. So why not bring the brand back? Good idea, but the made a mess of it.
Now, finally after a decade of Maybach the Maybach 57 and 62 are leaving the market. Daimler is ready to accept defeat and stop producing the $350,000 luxury limousine when the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class hits the market in 2013.“It would not make sense to develop a successor model”, Daimler Dieter Zetsche said in an interview with German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “The coming S-Class is in such a way a superior vehicle that it can replace the Maybach.”
Mercedes thought the car would sell much better then it really did. They predicted 2000 sales annualy. Amazing the were dead on with 1000 of them being sent to America. Considering that in 2004, Maybach's best year, it sold only 244 cars in the U.S., Daimler’s decision to shut down the brand in 2013 and concentrate on Mercedes-Benz’s flagship S-Classdidn’t come a moment too soon.
Over all i think Maybach was a good idea but it wasn't executed correctly. The styling and the price of the thing was ridiculous! To sum things up over all Maybach was a failure compared to Bentley and Rolls Royce.
