Blast from the Past!

TODAY on our first edition of "BLAST FROM THE PAST" we will be featuring the 2003 Chevrolet SSR.
This is most definitely AN AMERICAN REVOLUTION. The 2003 Chevrolet SSR was a retro pickup, convertible, muscle car. It was GM's answer to Chrysler's, Plymouth Prowler.
The SSR is based on the Trailblazer/Envoy platform amazingly, and it shows. It comes standard with a  5.3-Liter Vortec V8 with a Four-speed automatic transmission making a small 290HP. This car/pickup/muscle car only comes with rear wheel drive, very American.
The interior did not fit the style of this car. Cheap, plastic, not hot roddish what so ever. The motor on the other hand was something else, power, smoothness, and dandy exhaust-pipe music made this car an epic car to drive.
It was highly critized for only having 4 gear ratios, being an automatic and having a clunky shifter. 0-60 also wasn't very fast with only being in the 7 second range. It's also limited to only 125mph. . . and weighs 4760 pounds. 1500 pounds heavier then the current generation Corvette convertible. Also, did I mention it's a convertible? Wait though, with the epic sound of the small block why would you ever put the top up?

Even though it was based on the giant Trailblazer/Envoy the engineers at Chevy nailed the handling and ride. It's not a sports car in any way, but the SSR corners confidently in the bends. It was also critized for having little feedback in the steering.
This car was critized alot, did i mention that yet?
When it came out the SSR had a base price of $41,995 and fully loaded models at $47,000. The SSR is currently only worth around $17K, mostly because it wasn't very good, and mostly because you haven't waited long enough for it to be worth anything. So if your getting into the collecting business, buy an SSR now.
